KWEA analysis tool

Analysistool for the creation of potential maps for small wind turbines on buildings.

Implementation period: 2020
Cooperation partner: Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin
Funded by: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (Förderkennzeichen: KF 3006101CL2)

Analysis tool for the creation of potential maps for small wind turbines on buildings. We carried out the KWEA project together with the Berlin University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Twele. The analysis tool to be developed aims at estimating the electricity feed-in potential from small wind turbines on each roof as far in advance as possible. For this purpose, a prototype of an "Efficient Analysis Tool for the Identification of Preferentially Suitable Sites in Settlement Structures for Small Wind Turbines that are Worth Surveying or that Significantly Reduce the Risk of a Turbine Installation without Further Surveying of the Site" was developed. The background of the project was that the use of small wind turbines is still at the beginning of its development. Due to the lack of differentiation between small wind turbines and large wind turbines, convincingly economical operation has not yet been achieved in Germany and thus the market has not yet been tapped. Against the background of the optimization of self-consumption, also through the use of decentralized storage technologies, the use of these plants is said to have great potential for success in Germany as well, even without a change in the EEG, if electricity procurement costs increase (e.g. Smit inVDI-Nachrichten "...Potenzial 700.000 Anlagen...", 7.5.2010). So far, however, neither potential studies nor large-scale site analyses for small wind turbines have been published or carried out in Germany. This is where the analysis tool for identifying preferentially suitable sites in settlement structures comes in.

Safe ZERO-E

Automatic solar potential analysis of facades based on high-resolution aerial photographs

Implementation period: 2020
Cooperation partner: Fachhochschule Bielefeld - Fachbereich Informatik
Funded by: Europäischer Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE)(Förderkennzeichen: EFRE-0800608)

We carried out the SAFE zero-e project together with the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences - Department of Computer Science, and Aerowest GmbH. The research project focused on the development of an automatic solar potential analysis of facades based on high-resolution aerial photographs for the project area Bielefeld-Sennestadt. The aim was to identify and present previously unused solar potentials for the generation of renewable energies on building facades and to develop zero-emission houses from existing buildings. The result of the research project shows that the calculation of solar potentials of facades is possible using 3D building bodies and the solar processor programmed by tetraeder.

SELN: Solar energy - local grids

Analysis tool as a municipal planning basis for local climate protection and energy concepts

Implementation period: 2022 - heute
Cooperation partner: -
Funded by: -

Operators of public grids must purchase all electricity generated by plants operated in accordance with the EEG in priority to electricity generated from other energy sources, irrespective of the respective demand (connection and purchase obligation). The grid operators are also obliged to expand their grids sufficiently to be able to purchase the preferential electricity. At the same time, the share of electricity generation from renewable energies is growing steadily and the framework conditions for the supply grids, which increasingly have to accept electricity from small, decentralised energy generation plants such as photovoltaic systems, are changing accordingly. The expected production of this small-scale generation side can so far only poorly be anticipated and integrated into the grid planning of the operators. .To date, it has been difficult to anticipate the expected output of this small-scale generation side and integrate it into operators' grid planning. The analysis tool to be developed aims to

  • estimate the electricity feed-in of each roof as accurately as possible in advance, to forecast the probability of the actual installation of a photovoltaic system on the basis of spatial planning models and to simulate it.

  • provide municipalities with a planning basis for local climate protection and energy concepts that is as reliable as possible, and

  • enable the operators of the local grids to recognise undercapacities at an early stage and to include any necessary expansion with the corresponding priority in their target grid planning.
